Innovating care: research and action for public health and palliative care

Fourth international research seminar of the European association for palliative care (EAPC) reference group on public health and palliative care.

In 2014, the WHO adopted resolution WHA67.19 urging member states to integrate palliative care into their health systems, with a particular focus on ensuring equitable access to care. The WHO model of palliative care emphasizes a public health approach, including community participation, addressing the social determinants of health and ensuring culturally safe care for all. Now is the time to explore innovative methods that not only generate evidence, but also translate it into tangible action.

This seminar aims to critically interrogate the palliative care landscape by actively considering and incorporating the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. It focuses on promoting equity in palliative care through rigorous research and proactive action.
It will explore innovative approaches that prioritize social justice, community engagement and citizen participation, ensuring that underserved and excluded communities, as well as others, receive the compassionate and comprehensive care they deserve. By sharing the collective knowledge of diverse communities and stakeholders, we seek to advance public participation in the development of palliative care policy and practice. Our goal is to create a dynamic platform for dialogue, collaboration and knowledge exchange, leading to transformative change in palliative care. Join us in our commitment to promoting diversity, equity and social impact in public health and palliative care.

This seminar will offer students, post-docs, researchers a unique opportunity to come together to discuss and advance research in global public health and palliative care. It will provide an open platform to debate critical issues and share evidence of change, while highlighting the need to transform palliative care practices to be more inclusive, equitable and community- and citizen-centered.
