Making the invisible visible: end-of-life care for adults with intellectual disabilities in Quebec
Chaire Autodétermination et Handicap conference organized in collaboration with the Centre de recherche et d'expertise en gérontologie sociale (CREGÉS).
This webinar will present the results of a qualitative study on the palliative care trajectories of adults with ID, based on retrospective accounts from loved ones, residential resource managers, and caregivers and professionals from community settings and the public network in Quebec.
Objectives:
- Examine the complexity of palliative care trajectories in adults with intellectual disabilities
- Identify the main factors influencing access to and quality of palliative care
- Highlight the ethical issues related to autonomy, inclusion and decision-making at the end of life
- Discuss strategies to strengthen collaborative practices and promote self-determination in end-of-life care settings
