2nd International Symposium on Public and Patient Involvement in Cancer Research: What Are the New Trends?

This 2nd International Symposium aims to strengthen ties among French-speaking partners interested in collaborative research as well as patient partnership, and to provide a forum for critical and constructive reflection on the subject.

The involvement of patients and citizens in cancer research—particularly in the field of public health—is now emerging as a new scientific and societal paradigm. Beyond symbolic participation, the challenge is to build genuine, structured partnerships between researchers and patients. These approaches aim to foster a more human-centered, inclusive science rooted in the lived experiences of the individuals and communities involved, making research more relevant to addressing their actual needs. Stakeholders in cancer research are seeking to implement forms of partnership and public engagement at the clinical, biomedical, epidemiological, interventional, and translational levels, as well as in the humanities and social sciences.

Objectives

  • To clarify what it means to “conduct research in partnership with patients and the public” across the various fields of oncology research while highlighting innovations in this area
  • Provide an overview of current work on patient partnership in cancer care, education, and research.

Thematic Areas

  • Partnership dynamics between researchers and stakeholders in oncology research: from lived and developed experiences, practical and ethical considerations to concrete impacts.
  • Research on partnership in oncology care pathways.
  • What partnership research approaches can address the challenges related to both health innovations and the vulnerabilities of those affected?
