Aging and death: diverse experiences of end-of-life, dying and bereavement

For the 2026 edition of its annual colloquium, aimed at a broad audience made up of people from social intervention and research, as well as students, seniors and family caregivers, CREGÉS invites you to a collective reflection on the diversity of end-of-life, dying and bereavement experiences among seniors.

The Centre de recherche et d'expertise en gérontologie sociale (CREGÉS) brings together a variety of players interested in the social aspects of old age and aging: researchers, students and practice partners. Their work focuses on improving public policies, programs, services and professional practices for seniors, on the conditions that support their quality of life and well-being, and on the inequalities, barriers and various forms of discrimination and exclusion that shape the experiences of aging.

The symposium will offer a space for exchange to explore:

  • the processes and experiences of dying, from the perspective of seniors, their loved ones and the professional or volunteer people who accompany them;
  • the experiences and mourning processes surrounding the death of older people;
  • the social representations, normative frameworks, social policies and institutional discourses that shape these experiences.
