Between Attachment, Loss, and Recovery: Adolescents’ Experience of the Foreseeable Death of a Parent

Monthly conference of the Quebec Network for Research in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (RQSPAL).

The foreseeable death of a parent is a profoundly transformative experience that extends far beyond the moment of loss. This experience upends the lives of many adolescents. This conference will present the main challenges faced by young people before, during, and after the grieving process, particularly in terms of family communication, identity, autonomy, and social support. We will address the multiple losses experienced, as well as the positive changes that can emerge from this ordeal. Finally, we will offer suggestions for how to better support adolescents facing a parent’s serious illness and end of life.

Speaker : Sabrina Anissa EL MANSALI, Ph.D. candidate in health sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMSS), University of Sherbrooke.
