Caregivers, cancer and other serious illnesses

The Cancéropole Est "Parcours de santé" network is organizing a workshop on the role and place of caregivers in the patient care pathway.

Whether they belong to the patient's close circle of family and friends, are professionals in the healthcare or medico-social sectors, or players in the associative world, caregivers occupy a central place in patient support. This is particularly true in the case of serious illnesses, including cancer, due to their possible chronicity and/or life-threatening prognosis, implying for the patient a sometimes heavy and long course of care, impacting their daily life and altering their quality of life.

The aim of this workshop is to build on current research to gain a better understanding of the role of family caregivers and formal caregivers (from the healthcare, social and voluntary sectors) at different stages of the disease process.
