Adjacent to the ANR program "Pour une sociologie politique du traitement des restes humains" (Cortem, 2019-2022), this multi-year seminar intends to take stock of current research around the management of "problematic" bodies. Beyond crisis or post-crisis contexts, it is indeed possible to identify today a multiplicity of situations where public or private actors strive to "make speak" human remains whose identity or history remain unknown, and clash over the "truth" that their examination delivers - whether indeed they are victims of mass crimes, exiles who died in the course of their migration, or the "dead of the street" that nobody claims.

In this session, Antoine Briand will propose a paper entitled: Unknown patients, missing persons and unidentified corpses. Ethnographie du processus d'identification de la Satya Harishchandra Foundation de Hyderabad (Inde).
