Supporting residents at the end of life has been complicated by the urgency of the situation and the lack of staff. Professionals cite an accelerated work schedule and express regret that they were not always able to provide "dignified" support to residents who were severely deprived of visits from their loved ones at the time of the first confinement. In normal times, professionals consider that accompanying residents at the end of their lives is an essential dimension of care work. However, conditions during the first confinement limited the duration and quality of interactions. Touch and affection, which normally play an important role, were hampered by health protocols. This limitation of the relational dimension upset the values shared by these professionals. Also, the treatment of the body, then of the remains, did not allow for the deployment of the usual rites that give meaning to accompaniment and death.
