Trajectory of care use in the last year of life of subjects with dementia: use of the healthcare system and the influence of organizational factors


Antoine ELYN is a general practitioner in a multi-professional health center near Toulouse. In particular, he works in the EHPAD nursing homes in the area. At the same time, he works part-time in the pain assessment and treatment center at Toulouse University Hospital. His initial training was in general medicine, followed by pain and palliative medicine. He worked as a university clinical supervisor and hospital assistant in the palliative care department at Toulouse University Hospital. After completing a Master's 2 in Epidemiology at the Epidemiology and Public Health Analyses: Risks, Chronic Diseases and Handicaps research unit (UMR1207- INSERM - Université Toulouse 3 Paul Sabatier), he continued his work there on the end-of-life care of people suffering from Alzheimer's disease or related syndromes.

Living apart from the world, aging and dying in the monastery

Annick ANCHISI, a specialist in old age, and Laurent AMIOTTE-SUCHET, a specialist in religions, are conducting ethnographic research on monastic communities confronted with their aging. They are observing the daily lives of monks and nuns, and interviewing members of these communities as well as those around them. They bring a new perspective to these places where each and every one strives to hold his or her place in order to participate in collective life, right up until their death wishing to die in the monastery and be buried there.
