Global palliative care for the 21st Century
Lecture by Professor Catherine Evans, Director of the Cicely Saunders Institute, who will highlight the global need for palliative care.
Palliative care is individualized care that places the needs of the person and their loved ones before the illness.
This webinar looks at the way forward for palliative care globally, addressing three areas:
- the demand for palliative care, which is increasing rapidly as the population ages,
- the problem of healthcare systems poorly designed to meet complex care needs,
- the solution of strengthening healthcare systems by integrating palliative care into all healthcare services.
Catherine Evans is Clinical Professor of Palliative Care at the Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, Policy and Rehabilitation at King's College London, and Honorary Nurse Consultant at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust. She is Acting Director of the Cicely Saunders Institute and Deputy Director of the Office of Clinical and Academic Education at King's College. Her research focuses on the integration of palliative care in the community for adults with multiple pathologies, including dementia and frailty. Her interventions integrate new models of community palliative care, the use of person-centered outcome measures for holistic assessment linked to clinical decision aids, and digital healthcare for remote assessment and rapid care management. As a senior academic clinical nurse, she is passionate about building research capacity in nursing, midwifery and allied health professions, both nationally and internationally.
This webinar is organized by the Faculty of Nursing, Obstetrics and Palliative Care at King's College, who aim to present cutting-edge research to an international audience.
