Professional practices surrounding death and bereavement: influences, knowledge and experiences, a revealing portrait from the timeless project
The Réseau québécois de recherche en soins palliatifs et de fin de vie -RQSPAL organizes monthly conferences to popularize the knowledge acquired by its members. In this session, Chantal Verdon, PhD nurse, will offer a talk on professional practices surrounding death and bereavement.
When a death occurs, healthcare has a major influence on the bereavement trajectory of families. The Timeless study examined professional practices in the context of death and bereavement through some 60 interviews with doctors, nurses, social workers and psychologists. The aim was to document and describe their professional practices through the challenges, knowledge and experiences they face when dealing with families affected by the death of a loved one. This workshop aims to present the findings and discuss possible implications for practice, teaching and research.
