Promoting dialogue between research and the extra-academic world on the subject of death

In our respective research on death or the dead, researchers are led to evolve with these professionals whether in the long term of a fieldwork or during more punctual interviews. Welcoming the researcher or receiving his or her requests can be a shock to professionals, who then discover the foreign and mysterious world of academia. In this workshop, the aim is to discuss professional practices and ways of learning from each other, by outlining respective needs and expectations. Faced with a researcher wishing to collect data, there are professionals with little or no experience of research and research methodology. This may come as a surprise. How can the scientific approach be clearly explained without compromising the process? What expectations do professionals have of scientific production? How can we ensure that everyone benefits from collaboration? Several types of research framework will be discussed, such as the Cifre scheme. What about research outside this framework? What return on investment (time and money) do professionals expect? What are the imperatives that researchers can't ignore?

The first part of the session will be devoted to the presentation of guests from various backgrounds (researchers, doctoral students, funeral professionals) and their day-to-day issues. The floor will then be given to those who wish to speak.

Following your registration for the workshop, you will receive a link to an online collaborative document aimed at preparing the session. On this document, you will be able to enter stories and questions related to your own research, problems you have encountered and/or unresolved, etc. You can also share bibliographical references on the document. The seminar team will then use this document as a basis for facilitating the session.
