Development of palliative care and support at the end of life
The 2021-2024 national plan was made public on January 27, 2022 by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health. The Platform's role in the development of end-of-life research is clearly included.
Remember that the National Platform for End-of-Life Research was created as part of the previous national plan for the Development of Palliative Care and End-of-Life Support 2015-2018. The new plan, whose roadmap was announced on September 22, 2021 by Minister Olivier Véran, was made public on January 27, 2022. The objectives are to "guarantee access to palliative care and end-of-life support for all citizens, throughout the country and as close as possible to all living areas."
This plan is broken down into three axes, the second of which proposes to "strengthen palliative care expertise by developing training and supporting research"1. Among the ten actions mentioned in this axis 2, the one entitled "Mobilizing research and sharing its lessons" gives pride of place to the Platform's activities. Its role in structuring, developing and promoting French research in this field is reaffirmed. The challenge is to contribute to the development of this research through interdisciplinary projects, to disseminate the lessons learned from this work and to contribute, thanks to these scientific results, to the training of future university teachers.
The 2021-2024 plan therefore proposes to continue the Platform's activities, in particular by continuing to identify and network all researchers in the field and by setting up a research observatory. The aim is also to encourage and support research teams to apply for national and international calls for projects. The aim is also to promote international collaborations and involve French teams in European or international projects.
Thus, the funding and consolidation of the Platform are among the flagship measures announced in this new plan.
