European Horizon mission cancer projects

EUonQoL aims to develop, pilot and validate a unified patient-centric system for quality of life (QoL) assessment based on the evaluations and preferences of cancer patients and survivors. This "EUonQoL-Kit" will be developed from the patient's perspective, digitally administered, available in the languages of the EU27 and associated countries, and applicable to future, periodic surveys to contribute to the EU's cancer mission. At the heart of EUonQoL is the adoption of a multi-stakeholder co-design methodology, involving patient representatives, healthcare professionals, administrators, policy-makers and citizens in all project activities. Existing quality of life tools will be reviewed, examining all relevant sources. This review will be used in the context of codesign consensus with stakeholder and patient preferences to identify gaps and establish all dimensions of quality of life that are relevant from the perspective of patients, clinicians and society. A multidisciplinary panel of researchers, comprising the most talented experts, will develop the EUonQoL-Kit, which will be validated in a pilot survey using digital data collection. A total of 4,000 cancer patients and survivors will be recruited via a network of EU cancer centers. An analysis of factors with a potential impact on the quality of life of cancer patients and survivors will also be carried out. Implementation and exploitation strategies, as well as links with other Mission Cancer projects and actions, will be explored to develop future periodic surveys. EUonQoL involves research institutions, cancer centers, as well as scientific, professional and patient representative organizations involved in cancer research, all with extensive experience and solid scientific training in the development of quality of life self-assessment measures. This partnership fuels EUonQoL's ambition to translate quality of life information into future changes in cancer care policy and clinical practice
