CONT-END

Attempts to Control the End of Life in People with Dementia: Two-level Approach to Examine Controversies.

-

In dementia at the end of life, cognitive and physical decline means that control is usually lost. CONT-END will examine control in the context of three emerging interventions that contain a controversial element of control-seeking in the dementia death process: advance planning of end-of-life care, the use of new technologies to monitor symptoms when self-reporting is impossible, and euthanasia. Control will be examined at the level of clinical practice, but also at the level of end-of-life research practice. Indeed, research models are often flexible, and the aim is to study whether and how this has an impact on research in an emotionally-charged field. A mixed-methods empirical approach will enable both practices to be studied in parallel.
