HENKO NET

Innovation and digital technologies for social and health palliative care at home

-

In Spain, only 49% of people in need of palliative care (PC) receive it. In France, 85% of people wish to die at home, but only 37% do so. In Portugal, the Portuguese Palliative Care Association warned that 70,000 people had no access to this care. This care is crucial, however, because it enables symptoms to be controlled, an ethical duty to relieve suffering and respect people's dignity. Carried out in the home, it provides patients with greater comfort and well-being. HENKO means profound and transformative change in Japanese. HENKO NET aims to create a community of knowledge to strengthen palliative care systems and bring about organizational transformation by fostering innovation and adopting innovative digital technologies that will enable patients to be cared for at home on an ongoing basis, and in rural areas too. To achieve this, the partners will devise a joint strategy and action plan to promote an innovative attitude among professionals, advanced training and the exchange of best practices in new models of care and the adoption of effective digital technologies. One of the most innovative results will be HENKO, an artificial intelligence-based platform for early detection of MS needs and anticipation of unwanted events (medical or social). It will enable better organization of care, more effective follow-up at home and fewer hospitalizations. Patients, families and professionals will play an active role in developing the tool, and a pilot trial involving 100 patients will determine its effectiveness and efficiency. Cooperation between beneficiaries in the three countries (ES, FR, PT) is essential. Indeed, innovation is very rare in this field, and broadening the working scene on a transnational scale will make it possible to count on sufficient knowledge to develop solutions.
