Impact of oncology integrated palliative care day hospital on health status and resource utilization.

Context: The growing increase in the need for palliative care in oncology and the reduction in the number of hospital beds imply a shift to ambulatory palliative care. The evaluation of new ambulatory palliative care pathways is a public health issue. Objective: To evaluate the impact of an integrated palliative oncology day hospital on health status and resource utilization. Methodology: First, retrospective study of the integrated palliative care day hospital with description of the model and exploratory statistics. In the second phase, a randomized, multicenter study with quantitative analysis including a medico-economic component and qualitative analysis comparing the integrated palliative care day hospital versus standard palliative care management. End of inclusions in March 2023 (111 patients included out of 135 planned by 18/07/2022). Discussion: The heterogeneity of palliative care models represents a challenge in terms of methodological research, particularly with regard to study design, evaluation and practical issues. The lack of variation in model content, the contexts in which they were implemented and the detail of content such as our model are significant for the evaluation of palliative care models.
