The palliative care day hospital in oncology: Impact on patient and family support and on the end-of-life trajectory.
Adult patients with advanced-stage cancer requiring early, integrated palliative care.
Mixed quantitative and qualitative methodology:
1/ Multicenter, randomized, open-label clinical study involving five Cancer Control Centers.
2/ With a medico-economic component on the whole population.
3/ With a qualitative analysis on a sample of caregivers and patients.
The main objective is to analyze the impact of palliative care day hospital management integrated with the cancer center on the quality of life of adult patients with advanced-stage cancer.
The secondary objectives of the study are to assess the impact of HDJ-SPI management on:
- Anxiety and depressive disorders,
- Satisfaction with care,
- The sense of burden borne by loved ones,
- The patient's understanding of the medical risks associated with disease progression,
- The frequency of anticipated discussions,
- The technical nature of end-of-life care (emergency consultations, hospitalization in an acute care ward or intensive care unit, administration of anti-cancer treatment in the last 3 months of life,
- Place of death at home or in a palliative care unit,
- Overall survival
- The direct costs of care (hospitalizations, consultations, hospitalization at home (HAD), networks, anti-cancer treatments).
