Following on from research carried out to evaluate osteopathic body non-medication interventions (NMIs) in oncology and palliative care (Gaeazzi et al., 2025) and in oncopediatrics (De Mauljean et al. 2025), we are developing national and international collaborations notably in Quebec with a palliative care home with members of the RQSPAL and at the Ile-de-France level with the Gustave Roussi, Thonon and Robert Debré hospital centers.
Oncological palliative care (Galeazzi et al., 2025)
This single-blind randomized controlled clinical trial compared the efficacy of osteopathy with placebo treatment in 75 cancer patients in palliative care units. Patients who received osteopathy showed a significant reduction in pain measured by visual analog scale, as well as a trend towards improved quality of life and reduced consumption of analgesics. These results suggest a potential interest in osteopathy as a complementary approach to pain management in oncology.
Pediatric onco-hematology (De Mauljean et al., 2025)
This interventional pre-study evaluated the contribution of osteopathic consultations in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Eight patients aged 2 to 7 years received five sessions during their hospitalization. Quantitative results showed no significant improvement in pain or quality of life, but qualitative data suggested perceived benefits on certain symptoms, notably spinal, locomotor and digestive. Above all, the study clarified the methodological conditions needed for larger trials.
