Healing relationships between patients from visible minority groups and their clinicians in palliative care

Palliative care alleviates suffering and promotes healing in part through building relationships with patients that promote their sense of personal growth and transcendence. However, people from racialized backgrounds often experience additional challenges that may impede the formation of these healing-oriented relationships and contribute to inequities in serious illness care. This presentation will discuss an ongoing qualitative study that uses interpretive description to explore the qualities of clinician-patient relationships in palliative care that promote a sense of healing in the context of potential interpersonal challenges.
