Palliative care and Parkinson's disease

A report on the implementation of the SPARK project funded as part of the AMI Fin de vie 2021 by the Plateforme nationale pour la recherche sur la fin de vie.

Internationally, the theme of "neuropalliative care" is enjoying growing interest, particularly in Parkinson's disease (PD). On a national scale, however, few studies have been carried out in this field. Indeed, the conditions (i) of access to palliative care and (ii) of end-of-life care for PD patients have hardly been described to date - with the exception of preliminary studies carried out in Brittany as part of the APO-PALLIA project. What's more, there are no recommendations to guide practices, which vary from center to center. The creation of the SPARK network, involving Rennes and Besançon, aims to fill these gaps through an interdisciplinary approach combining the expertise of these teams (research, neurology, ethics, palliative care, pharmacology & health data). It is part of a wider East-West collaboration. Indeed, the SPARK network associates a research team (EA 4712), a Parkinson's Expert Center (Besançon), and two palliative care services (CHU de Rennes & Besançon), resources for their respective territories, from both neurology and palliative care perspectives.
