Care of Parkinson's patients at the end of life: current situation and prospects for improvement
The APO-PALLIA project aims to carry out an inventory of knowledge and practices surrounding the care of Parkinson's patients at the end of life in Brittany. These data, collected prospectively and multicentrically from neurologists, patients and palliative care unit teams, will enable the precise identification of gaps and needs in (in)training for both patients and caregivers. Appropriate, multidisciplinary corrective actions will then be implemented to meet these needs: training on the specificities of Parkinson's disease for palliative care teams, training on how to access and manage palliative care for neurologists, and awareness-raising and therapeutic education initiatives for patients and caregivers. The aim of this project, which combines research, clinical expertise and actions in the field, is to offer patients optimized support in their care, right up to the end of life. Accompanying the natural process towards the end of life in comfort and dignity, by providing attentive, quality care, is a fundamental principle; APO-PALLIA responds to the current need for acculturation to the palliative approach in Parkinson's disease.
