Survey on end-of-life sedation in the ICU

The Centre national des soins palliatifs et de la fin de vie (CNSPFV) and its hospital partners are launching a practice survey entitled: "Sédation profonde et continue jusqu'au décès au décours d'une limitation ou d'un arrêt des thérapeutiques en réanimation - unités de surveillance continue en France".

The organizations are launching a call for participation from all establishments (public and private) with a resuscitation unit - USC (medical, polyvalent or surgical resuscitation).

The main aim of the study is to describe sedative practices following decisions to limit or stop therapies (LAT) in the ICU. The survey will also aim to compare sedative practices (deep and continuous sedation until death vs. so-called proportionate sedations) and evaluate the decision-making modalities of deep and continuous sedation until death.

This is a multicenter retrospective observational study. The inclusion and study period is 6 months. Each center will collect data on the last 10 consecutive deaths that occurred following decisions to limit or stop therapies before January 1, 2020 in the intensive care unit - USC.

This survey is launched by the "ethics" and "resuscitation" committees of the Société Française d'Anesthésie-Réanimation (SFAR) and the Réseau Recherche SFAR, in collaboration with the CNSPFV.

To take part in the study, individuals should send an e-mail to: recherche@sfar.org.
