What is help? The experts' view

Third French symposium on young caregivers co-organized by Université Paris Cité's Laboratoire de Psychopathologie et Processus de Santé and the national association Jeunes AiDants Ensemble (JADE).

Young caregivers are children and teenagers who provide significant and regular assistance to a member of their family or household, who needs help due to illness or disability. Since our first two colloquia, in 2019 and 2022 respectively, recognition of young carers continues to develop slowly but surely in France.

The question of help is essential. What exactly is involved? What is meant by "significant and regular help"? How can this help be identified and evaluated? How can it be taken into account when supporting families?

The aim of this 3rd French symposium on young carers is to explore these questions through the eyes of various experts from research and the field. This event will provide an overview of research-based knowledge and actions carried out by structures specializing in young carers, but also dedicated to supporting carers or families more generally. The day will close with more specific exchanges around support for student carers.
