The Plan national Développement des soins palliatifs et accompagnement de la fin de vie 2021-2024 (National Plan for the Development of Palliative Care and Support at the End of Life 2021-2024) has enabled the creation of 12 positions for university clinical leaders - hospital assistants (CCU-AH or CCA) in palliative medicine between 2022 and 2024. The aim is to create a pool of future university hospitalists across France. The Decade-long strategy for supportive care to strengthen palliative care, pain management and end-of-life support 2024-2034 aims to continue the momentum. A new call for applications is launched in 2025 for palliative care research projects likely to justify the temporary assignment of clinical head positions.

It is aimed at postgraduate students in the final year of their Diplôme d'études spécialisées (DES), candidates who have validated their DES less than three years ago, and CCU-AHs at the end of their second year of clinical practice (whatever the discipline) with a view to continuing their duties in the field of palliative medicine.

They will have to demonstrate their interest in palliative care either through validation or current or planned enrolment at the start of the 2025 academic year in a Master 2 diploma, or through completion of cross-disciplinary specialist training, a DESC, DU or DIU, or prior clinical experience in this field.

Applicants will have to propose a research project envisaged as part of a Master 2 research, doctorate or post-doctorate type of training, with an attachment (current or planned) to a research unit or team listed in the national directory of the National Platform for End-of-Life Research.

Selected projects will result in the temporary allocation of a CCU-AH position for two years in the case of first-time appointments. Project leaders for whom a CCU-AH position is currently funded (APP 2024 winners) will be able to submit a request for renewal for a further year.

The projects selected will give rise to a temporary allocation of a CCU-AH position for two years in the case of first-time appointments
