France to host EAPC World Congress
The Plateforme nationale pour la recherche sur la fin de vie (national platform for end-of-life research) has submitted a bid to host the world congress of the European association for palliative care in France in 2028, 2029 or 2030. It has received a great deal of support in its bid, in particular from SFAP and the Interdisciplinary End-of-Life Research Program.
TheEuropean association for palliative care (EAPC) is an organization whose aim is to promote and support the development of palliative care in Europe and worldwide. Its strategic objectives include supporting research, disseminating its results and promoting innovation in this field.
The EAPC World Congress is the leading international scientific event dedicated to end-of-life research and palliative care. It brings together over 2,000 participants from nearly 80 countries. It has only been held once in France, in 1990, for its first edition. Ensuring that it takes place here again is perfectly in line with the objectives of the National Platform for End-of-Life Research, as its co-chair Adrien EVIN explains: "This is an exceptional opportunity to raise the profile of research and innovations concerning palliative care and support for people at the end of life, to boost the visibility and dynamism of French research, and to encourage French researchers to present their work to the international community ".
This initiative is supported as a privileged partner by the Société française d'accompagnments et de soins palliatifs (SFAP) and the Programme de recherche interdisciplinaire pour la fin de vie (interdisciplinary research program for the end of life) steered by the Agence de programmes de recherche en Santé (health research programs agency) entrusted to Inserm.
The Platform has mobilized to obtain numerous endorsements: Direction générale de l'offre de soins (DGOS) of the Ministère de la Santé, des Familles, de l'Autonomie et des Personnes handicapées, Direction générale de la recherche et de l'innovation of the Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de l'Espace, Comité national de coordination de la recherche, France universités, Conseil national des universités (CNU), Collège national des enseignants pour la formation universitaire en soins palliatifs (CNEFUSP), Centre national des soins palliatifs et de la fin de vie (CNSPFV) and the journal Médecine palliative. More locally, the Délégation régionale académique à la recherche et à l'innovation de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, as well as the structures hosting the Platform: Université Marie et Louis Pasteur and its Maison des sciences humaines et environnementales (MSHE) have also shown their support.
The application file was submitted on January 9. Several cities have been proposed to host the event: Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon and Bordeaux. The venue will be decided by the congress selection committee, if the French bid is accepted.
