An initial call for applications was issued in the spring of 2022, and the National Platform for End-of-Life Research helped select the candidates. This year, three winners were selected:

Lydie CHAIN is a geriatrician with a master's degree in palliative medicine. In conjunction with the supportive and palliative care department at Nice University Hospital, she proposes to conduct a study of the variability of sedative practices observed within ten palliative care units in mainland France. This work follows on from an initial quantitative study which highlighted a huge variation in the rate of sedated patients from one unit to another. The planned research project will first of all investigate these results in greater depth on a quantitative level, and then set up a qualitative study1 among medical and paramedical staff in order to better understand this variability.

Roxane DONZ is a general practitioner at Hospices Civils de Lyon. In association with the Palliative Care Unit at Lyon Sud Hospital, and with the Centre pour l'Innovation en Cancérologie de Lyon (CICLY), EA 3738 of Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, she proposes to conduct a research project on the sexual health needs of patients with advanced cancers. This mixed study will focus on people with non-genital cancers, combining a cross-sectional study based on electronic data collection, complemented by a qualitative approach based on semi-directed interviews with these patients.

Mathilde SCHEIBER, internist physician with a specialization in palliative care, plans to carry out a project in conjunction with the mobile palliative care team at the CHRU de Tours and the SPHERE laboratory (UMR INSERM U1246 - methodS in Patient-centered outcomes & HEalth REsearch). The aim is to validate the clinical relevance of a new needs assessment questionnaire (ACCOmPAgNE) for ambulatory cancer patients. This study will be carried out by comparing care pathways and patient satisfaction in an intervention group and a control group.

These three prizewinners will take up their positions this autumn.
