Palliative and end-of-life care at home: findings, challenges and prospects
The contents of the international francophone scientific day co-organized on February 8, 2024 by the Plateforme nationale pour la recherche sur la fin de vie and the Réseau québécois de recherche en soins palliatifs et de fin de vie (RQSPAL) are available online.
The aging of the population and the increased prevalence of accompanying comorbidities have led to the consideration of offering palliative and end-of-life care (PEOLC) at home as a promising avenue, particularly when it corresponds to the person's wishes. A growing willingness to offer hospice palliative and end-of-life care at home is increasingly present in many countries, but problems of access, equity and quality persist. A great deal of research has been developed in recent years to better understand the current situation and enable people to live the last stage of their lives at home.
Five speakers took turns to reflect on these issues at the fourth edition of the RQSPAL and Plateforme international French-speaking scientific day:
Jean DANIS presented the PALLIDOM: Emergency palliative care at home project. Isabelle VAN PEVENAGE's paper focused on Dying at home? Les désirs et possibilités des personnes âgées au Québec. Sarra MOUGEL dealt withPediatric hospitalization at home in the service of palliative and end-of-life care at home for children, through a sociological study of the French case. Jérôme LECLERC-LOISELLE reflected on Parameters of nursing practice for health in home palliative care. And finally, Isabelle CUCHET analyzed the Role and experience of dispensing pharmacists in end-of-life home care in France.
