Pediatric palliative care research workshops

Assessment of a project funded by the national platform for end-of-life research and the CNSA.

In 2023, the Plateforme nationale pour la recherche sur la fin de vie, in collaboration with the Caisse nationale de solidarité pour l'autonomie (CNSA), awarded aids for the organization of scientific events.

Aude TIPHAINE, a pediatrician with the Regional Pediatric Palliative Care Resource Team (ERRSPP) in nouvelle Aquitaine, was awarded one of these grants for her project to organize research workshops during the fifth pediatric palliative care meetings held in Arcachon on October 10 and 11, 2024. These meetings are a forum for reflection, training and research organized by the Société française de Soins Palliatifs Pédiatriques (2SPP). Over the two days, plenary sessions, round tables and workshops were organized around the theme of New complex situations in pediatric palliative care.

As part of these meetings, and thanks to financial support from the Plateforme and the CNSA, two research workshops were organized around the following themes:

  • The end of life of children with disabilities, at home, in a facility or in hospital.
  • The bereavement experience of children with disabilities, their parents and the professionals who support them.

These workshops were led by a student/researcher pair (Frédérique DRILLAUD and Sandra FRACHE) and resulted in research projects on the following topics:

  • Criteria and modalities of intervention by a pediatric hospital-at-home team in the palliative care of multihandicapped children or children with complex chronic pathologies: current state of practice of HAH pediatricians in France
  • Home visits by multihandicapped children in palliative care
  • Quelles représentations ont les équipes (éducatives et paramédicales) des soins palliatifs dans un Établissement pour enfants et adolescents polyhandicapés (EEAP)
  • Interruption of pregnancy for medical reasons (IMG) without fœticide: what practices, what representations and what experiential experience do healthcare professionals have? What about the representations and experiences, post IMG without fœticide, of parents?

Another grant for the organization of scientific events was awarded to Axelle MANEVAL-VAN LANDER for the organization of an international symposium entitled L'Accompagnement palliatif en soins primaires, multi-professional care models in the home and city-hospital links (ACCOMPALLIA).
