Video review of the COVIDEHPAD study

The Plateforme nationale pour la recherche sur la fin de vie and the Caisse nationale de solidarité pour l'autonomie (CNSA) have organized three webinars around the results of a major study carried out in 52 EHPADs on issues relating to confinement, end-of-life and death in EHPADs, during the first wave of the Covid-19 epidemic in France.

The Covid-19 epidemic has triggered an unprecedented situation that has disrupted all living environments. People living and working in EHPAD were particularly affected by this health crisis. In this context, it seemed essential to observe and gather testimonies as soon as possible. That's why, starting in April 2020, the Plateforme nationale pour la recherche sur la fin de vie (national platform for end-of-life research) coordinated a study called COVIDEHPAD, to observe and analyze in real time the consequences of the first wave of the epidemic in these establishments. In six regions of mainland France, researchers in the humanities and social sciences conducted interviews with EHPAD professionals and, where possible, residents and their families. The aim was to understand the experience and feelings of these people faced with situations of confinement, end-of-life and death.

Three webinars devoted to the results of the study were organized as part of the Rendez-vous de la recherche de la Caisse nationale de solidarité pour l'autonomie (CNSA) between January and May 2023 on the following themes:

  • Habitating in EHPAD: in ordinary times and pandemic times
  • Adapting professional practices in the context of initial containment
  • Accompanying the end of life and treating the deceased in EHPAD during the first wave of COVID-19

The videos of these webinars and their summaries are now available on a dedicated page of our website:
