Green funerals. Anthropological analysis of a new relationship with death, the body and the environment

The aim of this thesis project is to analyze the trend towards green funerals in France using an anthropological approach. The research will focus on the question of norms and customs linked to the emergence of these new practices, whose study refers as much to the various institutions (political, economic, family), as to rituals, beliefs, perceptions of the body, death and techniques. We hypothesize that the development of green funerals in France is more the symptom of a wider upheaval, a shift in beliefs from Christian dogma to the "spirit of nature", under the guise of an environmentalist injunction framed by a particular market logic.
