Lucideuil

The Lucideuil project aims to better understand terminal lucidity, a phenomenon that consists of a sudden return of functions impaired by a serious pathology, and this shortly before death.

Still little studied and known in the medical world, this phenomenon nonetheless implies numerous clinical and ethical questions, particularly concerning the care of people at the end of life.

The aim of the Lucideuil project is therefore to deepen current knowledge of terminal lucidity and its repercussions, both from a qualitative and a quantitative point of view. We will be carrying out a multi-center approach (EHPAD, palliative care, geriatrics, oncology) in the Grand Est region to interview relatives and caregivers during situations where terminal lucidity is suspected. This research will be carried out with the intention of assessing the impact of terminal lucidity on family bereavement, as well as the influence of the phenomenon on the conceptions and practices of care teams. The aim of this research will also be to assess the prevalence of terminal lucidity, an innovative study in its field in France, in collaboration with other international medical and neuroscience teams. The results of the Lucideuil project could lead to a better understanding of this still enigmatic phenomenon. Such knowledge will make it possible to set up information interviews with the relatives concerned in order to support them, to develop the training and voice of caregivers on terminal lucidity, and to advance reflection and societal debates on the ethical dimension of care.
