Study of the implementation of a palliative approach in the adult intensive care unit
In 2020, L'Équipe Mobile de Soins Palliatifs (EMSP) of the Centre Hospitalier de Valenciennes (CHV) were developing a system to support the collegial procedure and ethical reflection, through meetings to help with the ethical journey with Critical Care Units (USC).
After two years in operation, a practice analysis approach was to enable the EMSP to gather the expectations of critical care units, and then to question the palliative dynamics within these units.
A retrospective study, analyzing the records of patients who died in two critical care units in 2019 and 2022, was carried out.
The analysis of the files tends to confirm a favorable evolution of practices in the field of regulatory and legislative aspects. It does not find this translation concerning certain aspects of the palliative approach. It testifies to an orientation of practices consistent with the results of the descriptive survey carried out in 2022.
