A graduate of the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in molecular and cellular biology, with a PhD in biochemistry, Abdel Aouacheria is a CNRS research fellow at the Institut des Sciences de l'Évolution in Montpellier. Author of numerous scientific articles on the life and death of cells (apoptosis), he has extended his thinking to other areas of knowledge. Co-founder of the Reliance Chair in Complexity, he is pursuing a transdisciplinary exploration inspired by the complex thinking of philosopher and sociologist Edgar Morin, recently welcomed by Unesco.
