I work on the funerary and mortuary treatment of human remains fragmented or anonymized by the contexts of political violence within which they are produced. As part of the ANR Pri-MI research program, I am particularly interested in human remains that we describe as "uncertain", i.e. whose qualification and belonging are in question. Who qualifies these remains as "human"? Who takes charge of them when there is no authority or relative to whom their responsibility is attributed?

My field of research is located in Guatemala (Latin America) and focuses on ritual innovations and collaborations between victims' families and forensic anthropologists in the care of human remains exhumed from armed conflict.
