Flora Bastiani is an HDR lecturer in health ethics in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toulouse II. A specialist in issues related to the care relationship, she is also co-director of the Master Éthique du Soin. She directs the journal Kairos as well as the Philosophica collection at Presses universitaires du Midi (PUM). In 2024, she founded the multidisciplinary research network Penser la Santé, a framework in which she hosts aweekly podcast.
Her work focuses on the modalities of relationship in critical care services and emergency situations, where she questions the articulation of vulnerability and creativity at the heart of the gesture of care. Her reflection on the intimacy of the human bond, which she defines as a "phenomenon of the whole", redefines the ethical stakes of care. She recently published Philosophie du soin critique. Penser la relation en réanimation, en soins intensifs et dans le prélèvement d'organes (Le cercle herméneutique, 2024), a pioneering work that explores the ethical foundations of caring practice in extreme contexts.
